Sony XCI-V3

Sony's new XCI-V3 and XCI-V3/XPE cameras are not just another Smart camera. These are industrial cameras with an industrious IQ: a complete PC with a high-end CCD camera in a small, networkable package. Unlike conventional machine vision cameras, images captured by the XCI-V3 and XCI-V3/XPE are processed within the camera and the processed data is directly transmitted to a PC over a network.

The new XCI-V3 camera incorporates a 1/3-type VGA B&W progressive scan CCD and is equipped with a Linux®-based operating system. The XCI-V3/XPE camera also incorporates a 1/3-type VGA B&W progressive scan CCD but comes with Windows® XPe (embedded) operating system. These cameras feature a high-performance AMD Geode GX533 processor, 256MB SDRAM, integrated Compact Flash™ memory storage and extensive I/O connectivity via Ethernet, USB serial port and monitor out. Both cameras also feature a 3x3 filter that can be used to enhance the edges of an object, improve the contrast so that image details can stand out or for other custom image processing requirements.

These smart cameras are designed to provide OEMs, system integrators and vision tool manufacturers a rugged, robust component, combining the imager, intelligence and interface in a single plug-in module that is simple to set up and easy to integrate for efficient factory workflow. Customers can install a variety of image-processing software applications or develop and apply customized applications to meet specific user needs.
